The Trinity Trumpet

Trinity student Sara Caitlin Godwin represented Lee County in the Distinguished Young Women of Alabama competition, formerly known as Junior Miss. Godwin, a senior at Trinity, performed a self-taught “Charlie Brown” piano medley composed by her uncle, George Godwin.

The competition also included categories in fitness, poise, academics, and interview skills, as well as talent. During the week before the state competition, the participants lived with host families in Montgomery as they prepared for the performances.

“I really wasn’t prepared for the DYW [Distinguished Young Women] experience. I now know a girl from almost every county in Alabama. They each have a story to tell, and since I go to a small school, interaction with people different than me is limited,” Godwin said. “I am grateful to have had this chance to make new friends. Overall, my week at DYW was long and hard, but it was so very worth it. I would encourage all girls to participate!”

Godwin, who plans to attend Auburn University in the fall, is eligible for university-funded scholarships after taking part in the program at the state level.

She will speak at area high schools this spring and will appear as the reigning Distinguished Young Woman of Lee County at the local program in August.

Northside News - Students enjoy planting seeds, learning fun plant facts

At Northside in Mrs. Powers’ class, we are learning about plants.

We got to plant bean seeds.

First,  we  filled a cup half up with soil.

Then we put our seeds in it. We had to listen very carefully.

If we put too much soil in, the plant would not survive.

If we put too much water in our cups, the seed would drown.

We had to wait four days before the plants started to sprout.

Baker Rowten said, “It was fun to plant plants.”

His plant has grown the most. John Knitter also liked planting the plants.

And that’s the news at Northside School!

OMS Poetry Jam produces potent poems

“My Attitude”

They say your attitude determines your latitude
So I’m as high as the sky
above

So see I have confidence as wide as all outside My intellect, yes you can expect
My game is that you cannot tame
I rise and shine to get on my

grind
My confidence, you cannot touch But, I bet if you could
you would

The Lee-Scott Report : Full speed ahead at LSA

Trudging, moaning and groaning through the halls, the LSA students may not be in full swing after the holidays, but the school is back at full speed. Lee-Scott Academy is actively working to better itself for the future.

Architects from the Independent School Council, the company helping the school to expand its horizons by planning for the future, came to LSA last week to ask for ideas for buildings that could be built on land Lee-Scott may soon acquire. The teachers even had the opportunity to lay the groundwork for what the campus may eventually look like. The architects will visit again in coming weeks to show the plans that they drew up to the administration and teachers.

While the students received Christmas gifts over the break, Lee-Scott did, too.

The biggest gift was a WiFi update. The wireless is now even faster than the school’s wired network because of the 13 new AeroHive devices added throughout the school. With these devices, Internet connections are now available in all school classrooms and hallways.

Students enjoy ‘Accelerated reading’ party

Last Friday, Dec. 9, Northside had an Accelerated Reader party for many of its students.

Accelerated Reader (A.R.) is a program that asks comprehension questions when you read an A.R. book.

A.R. books can be over one whole point. When students reach thirty points, they get to go to the party.

It was so great! They had popcorn and drinks.
They had cool bouncers. My favorite was the basketball game bouncer. Many helpers signed up to help our librarian, Mrs. Glenn.
My aunt was one of the helpers.
Five people from my class got to go.
It was super.
